Brijuni Islands

The Brijuni archipelago has a total of 14 islands and islets, which makes them the largest group of islands in the Istrian region and beautiful national park of Istria. This unique combination of untouched nature is enriched with many autochthonous plants and animal species along with long history and interesting culture. The Brijuni islands were longtime summer residence of former Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito where he hosted the world's most famous names such as Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Placido Domingo, John Malkovich, Naomi Campbell and Angelina Jolie. Mali Brijun (the Little Brijun) is the second largest island of the Brijuni archipelago which in summer turns into a stage where the Ulysses Theater, led by world-renowned actor Rade Šerbedžija, performs well known Shakespeare, Brecht and Krleža. Today Brijuni island is national park offering an interesting story to tell.
